Emerald, a green variety of beryl, gets its color from traces of chromium and vanadium in its crystalline structure. Many emeralds are treated with Opticon or oil to enhance their color. All Rio Grande emeralds have been oiled; we do not offer emeralds treated with Opticon.

The oval cut is an even, symmetrical shape but elongated. The arrangement of its facets is similar to that of a round brilliant, designed to maximize light and color. Larger sizes are available by special order.
