This button-style 14/20 yellow gold-filled safety clasp features an open floral filigree design and a bright finish. Designed for single-strand use, this secure closure is ideal for light- to medium-weight necklaces and bracelets. Safety clasps (also called pearl clasps) feature two parts that connect in two different ways, providing a fail-safe that helps prevent loss of higher-value necklaces or strands and are ideal for pearl and gemstone strands. The interior part of the clasp is a slender hook with notches along the outer edge; the exterior part is hollow except for a locking bar. The interior part hooks over the locking bar and then slides inside the exterior part, the notches catching along the inner sides to hold the clasp securely closed. I took on the restringing for a friend of a 24" 3-strand necklace that had originally featured all six ends tied to the very small rings on a very small 14k fish hook clasp. Consequently, the 4mm beads on all six ends were all clumped around the clasp. It looked horrible, and I was surprised to discover the clasp was stamped 14k on such an unprofessional job. I ended each strand with bead tips and hunted for 14k gold filled clasps that would allow the 4mm beads to spread out and sit naturally, and this clasp did the job beautifully. It was the perfect size and shape for the piece. Despite my having a tax ID and more than a few wholesale accounts from whom I normally get jewelry findings, I wasn't able to find this in a 3-strand version anywhere else.
